Pick Wisely

This is how our conversation went the other morning:

Lauren: Why do I have to listen to you all the time? I want to do what I want to do!

Me: I am your Mom, Lauren, so I make the decisions. When you are a Mom, you can tell your children what to do (pretty sure I heard this from my mom).

Lauren: No. When I am a Mom, I am going to tell YOU what to do!

On the weekends, Lauren is allowed to watch a movie on the computer in the morning. This morning, at an incredibly early time, I told her, "Lauren you may pick one movie from Netflix, that is all. You better pick wisely." Lauren started crying and said, "I don't like that movie Mom, I don't want to pick 'Wisely', I want a different movie!"

Beards

Kyle trimmed his beard and left a mountain of shavings in our sink. Lauren and I decided to leave them there for Dad to take care since it was his "responsibility". When he got home from a business trip, Lauren had a little conversation with him about it.

Lauren: Dad you need to clean the bathroom sink. Your beard hairs are in there.
Dad: You can clean them.
Lauren: It is your responsibility Dad. Your beard hairs, you clean them. If they were my beard hairs, I would clean them.
Dad: Girls don't have beards.
Mom: Well...some girls have beards (shouldn't have said that).
Lauren: Why?
Mom: Sometimes women that have a problem with obesity might have beards (It was all I could think of). That's why you need to eat healthy foods Lauren.
Lauren: Dad, you aren't eating healthy food!!

Our New Addition, Mac!

I have been contemplating a dog for a little while now. I think Lauren and Miles could use a little companion and Kyle has been on the road more so it would be nice to have an "extra security system". I saw the most adorable pictures of a little boy and his sidekick dog on Yahoo News and persuaded Kyle to just look at the animal shelter near us. Added bonus, my birthday and Kyle hadn't purchased me a big gift yet! Well...a few dogs and 2 places later we kept talking about the first dog we laid on our eyes on. He was so mellow and we got a really good vibe from him.

We couldn't take him home the same day so we took a "family pic" before we departed.
His name is Mac and he is a black lab/bulldog mix. The bulldog features won't be very prominent but he won't be quite as big and will be more hefty. He was born early December.
In his first day at home he has learned to love: lounging on the couch, snuggling with Kyle, laying on Lauren's pillow pet blanket, and peeing on the floor :)
 ...and sleeping!
This would have been a perfect picture if Mac didn't pass gas at the same time and make Kyle cringe!
The car ride to his new home. Lauren keeps saying, "We are your new family, Mac!"
Waiting for the vet to give us the clear to take him home.
 Getting to know each other!
 Sniffing away
Lauren was teasing her brother while we waited, poor kid!
I told the kids to show me their "We are going to get a dog face!"
 She was SO EXCITED!
We have already begun training him. Our friends have 2 large dogs and came over for a mini lesson on teaching them that you are their "master". He is definitely learning that we are the boss in a good way!

Lauren Lately

Lauren got the stomach flu for the 1st time ever! Glad we made it through 3 1/2 years of healthiness and hopefully it will be 3+ years before we experience it again!

Great Grandma Norma sent a package while we were staying home from work. Lauren got all dressed up with her leotard, tutu, and magic wand. She looks so tired and malnourished here!
She enjoyed her day watching movies on the computer
So sad to be sick and confined to a chair all day. I just had to take a picture of her first time having the flu
She was better the next weekend to hit up a Family Magic Show in town. Pre-show cookies :)
The magician after the show!
Her magic rope she snagged from the show
All bundled up!
I thought she looked so big this day!
Apparently this is how you wash the table off

Crumb over here
The best story of ALL...the other night we hung out at the kids' daycare since our church small group was meeting later that night there. Lauren and her little friend were playing when I asked Lauren to grab her socks upstairs. Lauren was downstairs so she yelled up to her friend upstairs, "Marilyn, can you grab my socks?" Then she looked around quick and yelled, "My hands are full, I can't come and get them!" She then proceeded to grab a blanket on the floor, shove it in her arms, and yell again, "So full!" Needless to say, I watched, laughed, and shook my head wondering how I got such a smarty pants!

Almost 7 months!

Miles will turn 7 months old on the 16th! We introduced food when he was 6 1/2 months. I tried egg yolk first and that is about all he has seemed to enjoy. He's tried: banana, avocado, peas, sweet potatoes, and egg yolk. He doesn't seem to really enjoy food yet.
The first time we boiled the egg a bit too long, he prefers it runny! Check out those long lashes :)

Lauren is always entertaining him!
At his well baby check-up this week he weighed 17lbs 12oz, was 27 inches long, and had a head circumference of 17 3/4 inches.
He is sitting up now, enjoying playing with toys, and babbling away. He has mastered the "d" sound and is working on the "m" (no "mama" yet but definitely a "dada"). We've heard some "b" and "l" too.
Miles is such a joy in our lives. He is a happy guy who loves being around people and held. He sleeps better than Lauren did but wakes up to nurse and have midnight snuggles! He is still sleeping with us and enjoys lots of blankets and sweating all night long. I think we are going to be in trouble this summer with how sweaty this kid is!
